The role

As a Water Services Coordinator/Designer at WSce, working in a consultancy environment as part of a project team, this role is responsible for devising innovative engineering designs and administering their construction, including through the commissioning, handover, and review during implementation.

The position holder can work independently as well under the support and supervision of senior personnel in the Civil & Water Engineering Team. You’ll work with a team that sets the benchmark, redefines possibilities, embraces innovation and exceeds expectations.

Role specifics
  • Design and drafting of Sydney Water Infrastructure including water, sewer, and stormwater assets; the coordination and submission of design packages for Sydney Water approval through E-Developer; and the application of WSA codes and Sydney Water specifications in undertaking designs.
  • Preparation and coordination of Building Plan Applications (in-scope & out-of-scope).
  • Site supervision, as required, for the installation of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Interrogate design solutions to ensure full compliance with codes, standards, and project briefs.
  • Attendance at co-ordination meetings and resolve design issues between external consultants and clients.
  • Write concise project communications and technical notes.
    Communicate via e-mail, ACONEX and other web-based project management platforms.
  • Maintain Continuing Professional Development (CPD) attending training sessions as required.
  • Research and validate design solutions, ensuring detailed and accurate information for clients.
  • Create tests to verify the effectiveness of design solutions and conduct peer reviews.
  • Analyse existing designs to find faults or improve performance and efficiency, proposing suitable remediations.
  • Provide accurate, thorough, and timely handover documentation to construction team members and remain available to interpret design recommendations.
  • Attend site inspections, review contractors WAE drawings, RFIs and other requests as required, and prepare site inspection reports.
  • Accurately input data into project management, time recording, and financial systems, maintaining regular status reporting on deliverables and suggesting resolutions for flagged issues.
  • Work within project budget and delivery timeframes, proactively identifying risks to delivery, scope creep, or design brief variations.
  • Keep detailed records of all input data informing design decisions, ensuring a well-documented decision-making process.
  • Maintain all internal records up to date, including performance tracking tools, training records, goal progression, and career advancement.

About You

As a Water Services Coordinator / Designer, you bring current and relevant design experience, good project management skills, and technical expertise.

Ideal Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Civil Construction Engineering or a Bachelor in Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a WSC/Designer.
  • Minimum registration as a C1 designer as per the Sydney Water competency standards.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering principles and ability to propose design solutions for various client needs.
  • Intermediate knowledge of and skills in engineering software including AutoCAD, 3D terrain modelling software (12D or AutoCAD Civil 3D) and Sydney Water SUDS Software. Excellent skills with Microsoft Office Suite of Applications.
  • Good understand of SWC Asset Creation Developer Processes for both Minor and Major works.
  • Good understanding and application of the WSA codes.
  • Recognised as a team player with strong organisational skills and clear communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve by accurately evaluating various data sources and making informed decisions.
  • Solid project management skills, capable of delivering within time, cost, and quality parameters.
  • Ability to build and leverage effective relationships.
