Canberra Light Rail
Stage 2
Light Rail Stage 2A, 2B and Raising London Circuit – City to Woden offers a sustainable transport option, connecting Northbourne Avenue to Woden Town Centre, via Commonwealth Ave and Parliamentary Triangle for improved city-lake connectivity and local amenity enhancement.
Overview
ACT Light Rail Stage Two is a comprehensive tram project extending the current route from Civic to Woden through the Parliamentary Triangle, connecting Canberra’s city centre to the southern suburbs. It builds upon the existing Stage One, which links the CBD to Gungahlin in the north. The expansion covers 11 kilometres with 12 strategically placed stops. Due to the complexities of gaining planning approval for tracks through the Parliamentary Triangle, the project is divided into two phases.
Our role
WSce’s scope covered design and documentation of water, sewer, horizontal directional drilling, gas, and telecommunications infrastructure for various project phases, including Raising of London Circuit (RLC), Light Rail Stage 2A Early Works Utilities, and Light Rail Stage 2A and 2B.
We executed 3D utility modelling and services coordination, detailed design for Icon Water’s DN300 and DN650 potable water mains and related valve chambers in the RLC project, structural assessments of an existing DN675 pipeline, and worked with Icon Water and specialist consultants to assess this pipeline, including coating, linings, reporting, and detailed design input for structural analysis. Additionally, as part of the RLC project we undertook the detailed design for the relocation of a 10m deep DN450 penstock.
