Gosford Hospital Redevelopment
The project delivered a major upgrade in health services and facilities for communities in Gosford and on the Central Coast, including a new 11-storey building new front entrance.
Overview
In response to the evolving needs of the growing Central Coast community, Gosford Hospital underwent a significant redevelopment. The development featured an 11-storey new building on a sloping site, along with a 3-storey frontage to the main entry of the existing hospital. The intricate project involved extensive refurbishment of the existing building, necessitating a phased approach to accommodate construction sequences and the continuous operation of critical facilities, including a busy emergency department.
Our role
The redevelopment of Gosford Hospital included the design of a nuclear medicine department, which featured a hot lab for the preparation of radioisotopes to enhance patient imaging. The specialised area included a hot WC section for managing radioactive waste discharges. WSce collaborated with MyRSO, a nuclear physicist, to negotiate discharge acceptance levels with the local utility operator in alignment with ARPANSA standards. The main building design was undertaken as a D&C contract that WSce oversaw.
