MacArthur
Memorial Park
An innovative, sustainable and multi-denominational memorial and parkland destination, designed to honour life, culture and community for generations to come.
Overview
The memorial park will address the need for burial space in Sydney’s rapidly expanding community. Spread across 113 hectares of open space in Varroville, it will provide 136,000 burial plots over the next century. Catholic Cemeteries & Crematoria is overseeing the design and construction of the precinct which includes six new buildings to cater to both cemetery and recreational requirements. This includes a multi-denominational chapel, a function room, a café, a workshop, a gatehouse, and a plant and maintenance building.
Our role
Wsce’s involvement in the project encompassed nine years of work and included the design of all civil, fire & hydraulic services for the 113 Ha site. This encompassed the design of approximately 8.6 km of access roads, the reconstruction of five dams, stormwater drainage for the roads and overall site, car parking, site levels, and stormwater drainage for each of the proposed six building locations. We also developed a comprehensive soil and water management plan and designed site levels, layout, and access roads to ensure smooth vehicular movement. Additionally, our scope included the design of a Sydney Water watermain and sewer extension to serve the development.
