J15 Shepherd Street Building
One of University of Sydney’s main buildings.
Overview
The J15 Shepherd Street Building (SSB) is a flexible teaching spaces, laboratories and associated uses building, built in the Ross Street carpark to facilitate the relocation of the School of Electrical Information Engineering (EIE) from J03 South Tower.
Our role
WSce was engaged to design the hydraulic and fire services for the concept design phase through to the Design & Construct (D&C) tender stage, laying the groundwork for subcontractors to carry the fire and hydraulic design into construction seamlessly.
For hydraulic services, our responsibilities encompassed the design and planning of cold and heated water services, provision for non-drinking water systems, as well as the comprehensive layout of sanitary plumbing and drainage systems. Our goal was to ensure a fully integrated and efficient hydraulic infrastructure that would meet the building’s long-term needs.
For fire services, WSce’s scope included the design of fire sprinkler systems, fire hydrant systems, fire hose reel systems, and the strategic placement of portable fire extinguishers throughout the building. Additionally, we were responsible for the fire detection and alarm systems, ensuring a high level of safety and compliance with fire safety standards. Our work in both hydraulic and fire services was instrumental in establishing a solid foundation for the building’s safety and operational efficiency, contributing significantly to the project’s overall success.
