Curio Collection by Hilton
The West Hotel, part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, stands as Australia’s first in this upscale brand.
Overview
Housed in a renovated Ausgrid Substation, the eight-level boutique hotel; Curio Collection by Hilton, features a distinctive geometric façade, repurposing an old office building and a heritage pub.
The engineering team navigated complexities in this transformation. With a total area of 6,839sqm, the hotel includes back-of-house operations, a conference facility, and retail space. The contemporary design showcases an open-air garden Atrium with lush greenery, adding to the hotel’s unique appeal.
Our role
Overcoming challenges in heritage building and Ausgrid substation decommissioning required close collaboration with the heritage team. We ensured certainty in delivery and robust risk management, adhering to a streamlined, short, and compressed construction program for a specific Christmas handover to the operator.
Addressing acoustic challenges in suspended drainage involved close collaboration with the architect to minimise noise transference in sensitive bedroom areas.
We drove the creation of aesthetically pleasing, sustainable, functional, and economical designs by partnering with our collaborators, embedding a project-wide commitment to innovation. The implementation of rainwater recycling significantly reduced water consumption from the authorities’ supply network.
