Outstanding Industry Individual Award
Tom Wise
WSce Director, Tom Wise, was honoured with the HCAA Outstanding Industry Individual 2024 Award. Tom’s dedication to the industry is evident through his extensive volunteer work, mentorship, and educational contributions. Leading by example within the workplace, he trains young engineers and fosters a “Thirst for Learning” on Fridays, where engineers can discuss problems and find solutions in-house. Tom is also instrumental in updating the WSce internal Confluence page with various technical articles and knowledge-sharing content.
Most recently, Tom has been pivotal in developing and delivering the CIBSE Hydraulic 2-day course across the country. Tom conducts this training pro bono without receiving any payment for his time.
A founding member of the original HCAA Education subcommittee, Tom regularly volunteers his time and expertise to the committee. In every meeting, he leads discussions on technical topics to better the industry. He represents the HCAA at various industry roundtable discussions and working groups, sharing his wealth of experience as a company director to assist the HCAA committee with legal perspectives.
Tom has recently contributed to several working groups. In Research & Education, he has contributed to Deakin University’s Water Demand initiative for potable water optimisation, influenced ANZ Hydraulic Services Engineering Training with 12 days of pro-bono expertise annually, and developed Engineers Australia’s BCA course for CIBSE, dedicating 300 hours of pro-bono work.
